5.7 hemi dies when put in gear

Dec 15, 2015 · I have a 2014 5.7 2wd with an 8 speed, I bought the truck last January and have put just over 16,000 miles on it and love it, when I first got it I could get mid to high 20s for mpg on the freeway as long as you keep it between 70-75 and it can pull the 4 cylinder mode.
I am using an 89 5.7 TBI to a 700r4. The truck starts great and then idles pretty good but I think the bad gas prevents it form idling better. Then when I shift it from park the truck dies. If I give it some gas and am able to drive it a little then when I try to stop it like for a stop sign the truck dies again. Any help would be great. Tim

My 2004 Ram 1500 5.7 HEMI is intermittently stalling, and I cannot find any kind of pattern whatsoever. It's a dangerous condition and it's incredibly frustrating. My dealer has told me there is no flash for this, yet I have heard otherwise in a couple threads online.

I just installed a set of pacesetter long tube headers and it ran good when I first started it and then it started surging.

Re: Engine dies when put into gear... Wow, seems like a common problem. I have an 84 Force 125 also, and I have the same problem. The engine runs fine the whole day, but hard to start at first, and then dies if I move into gear to slowly. Have to give her a little juice to get her moving, but once she is moving, it seems to work fine.

May 22, 2012 · Came back out, truck started right up, but then when I put it in reverse she died. Cranked it back up, shifted into R and it died again. Third time I kept my foot on the gas a little and made the shift and it stayed running. Drove home and tried it a few more times in my driveway. It will consistanly shut off when warm and shifting into gear.
Every time I shift my truck from park or reverse into drive the engine rpms severely drop and sometimes stalls. It idles in park at ~750-800rpms and drops to ~400rpms in drive before it bounces back to ~700rpm. However if I start my car in neutral and shift into drive everything is fine.

It will sit there and idle all day, rev it up, just fine, put it in gear it will take off on idle and start moving, give it gas and it stalls out.

I agree 100% with the 3.55 gear. My truck now is a Gmc 5.3 with a 3.77 gear. I get 18-20 with a combination city/hwy driving. Like one of the previous post stated it’s probab only 1 mpg between the 3.21/3.92. I live in Texas so it’s pretty flat but my towing trips are to Colorado and Utah so I’ll probably bite the bullet and go for the 3.92.
